Donald Trump declared on Monday that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran was “on life support” and that he was considering restarting his operation to protect ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz, amidst stalled negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

“The ceasefire is on massive life support, like when the doctor comes in and says: Sir, your loved one has exactly a 1% chance of living,” he said in the Oval Office of the White House.

After more than a month of ceasefire, both sides have so far failed to reach an agreement to end the war permanently.

In this context, Donald Trump said during a phone call with a Fox News journalist on Monday that he was considering restarting his operation called “Project Liberty,” aiming to allow the hundreds of ships stranded in the Gulf to cross the strait, briefly implemented last week. His decision has not yet been finalized, Fox News specifies.

The US president had put it on hold on May 5, the day after its launch, considering the “great progress made towards a comprehensive and final agreement with Iranian leaders.”

Donald Trump has reiterated from the White House that the United States will achieve “a complete victory” in their war against Iran.

“We will have a complete victory. We have already, theoretically, had a complete victory from a military point of view,” he stated.
