Study: France ranked 5th in use of artificial intelligence

France is among the countries where AI is highly utilized, ranking 5th globally. Nearly one out of two working-age French individuals (48%) has used AI tools, as per the Microsoft-led study. Compared to population, France is the leading nation in AI usage, far ahead of the United States at just 21%.
But how to interpret such a ranking? “The use has become widespread here, we have a curiosity but we each use artificial intelligence in our own way. It’s tinkering, without being sure that the usage is effective,” explains Catherine André, an economy journalist at LCI.
According to an Insee study, in 2024, only 10% of companies were using artificial intelligence, 33% among large corporations. “We were behind compared to the European average,” adds the journalist. “Without effective employee training and without companies actually embracing the tool, there cannot be economic benefits. Especially since there are still many questions about the productivity gains associated with AI.”
