In Durango, Colorado, David Citron is far from the high school in Niort, France. At just 22 years old, the native of Poitiers has been playing on American soccer fields for four years after spending many years with the Chamois Niortais, from U16 to the reserve team in N3, alongside a certain Oumar Ngom, now at Lecce in Serie A.

“During my last year, a player agency (Elite Athletes) came to the training center to present a project,” recalls the player, who had just brought the Niort team back to U19 Nationals under Johan Agnel.

After some trials at Clairefontaine with his best friend Titouan Fraslin, also a former Chamois player, several American coaches contacted him through Maxime Bisleau, now at Fontenay in N3. And the deal was sealed. “Staying would have meant sacrificing the academic side. By going to the USA, I could play at a good level while pursuing a great education at the same time,” explains David Citron.
