Donald Trump compares himself to Abraham Lincoln after shots fired at White House correspondents’ dinner

US president Donald Trump, referencing the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, stated on Saturday night that the assailant who broke into the gala he was attending in Washington may have targeted him because he was unhappy with his policies.

“I have to tell you that the most remarkable people, those who make the most impact – look at Abraham Lincoln (…), those who have the most impact are the ones we aim at,” he said to journalists.

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was killed in 1865 in his box at the theater in Washington by an ardent supporter of the “Southerners”, who had just been defeated by federal government forces.
