Footage filmed in the Oval Office shows that as a Donald Trump advisor speaks in the background, the American president, seated, closes his eyes and appears to be sleeping. The scene lasts for several tens of seconds.
Far from being the first time
This is not the first time Donald Trump has been caught napping in front of the cameras. In early December 2025, the head of state nodded off during a meeting with his ministers. During an inaugural meeting of his “Peace Council” on February 19th, he once again appeared drowsy in front of the cameras.
But the situation remains nevertheless embarrassing for someone who nicknamed his predecessor Joe Biden “Sleepy Joe” due to the former American president’s tendency to also fall asleep during official events.
Social media and American media have widely circulated the images of Trump captured on Thursday. Gavin Newsom, Democratic governor of California, a fierce critic of Trump and potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election, mockingly commented on his opponent: “Trump fell asleep at the wheel,” he wrote on X. Since his return to the White House, Donald Trump’s health has been at the center of speculation.
