At least two people were seriously injured on Thursday in a shooting near the Mall of Louisiana shopping center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, according to local authorities. Police confirmed that the two victims are in critical condition, while a total of ten people were transported to the hospital.
Shots were fired near the food court of the shopping center, involving two distinct groups, according to sources close to the investigation cited by local media. Authorities clarify that at this stage, it is not an active shooter situation, but that the two suspects are on the run.
A rescue operation was quickly deployed near a department store in the center. Residents were advised to “avoid the area” by local police in a post on Facebook, as law enforcement authorities continue their investigations. “Sharon (his wife) and I are praying for those affected and commend the quick response of law enforcement,” said Governor Jeff Landry in a statement.
