The Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima visited the United States from April 13 to 15. They notably met with Donald Trump and stayed at the White House.

It is impossible to ignore the historical connections between the Netherlands and the United States. In the 17th century, the city of New York was called “New Amsterdam” before the English settled there and renamed it. The King and Queen embarked on a royal marathon between Philadelphia, Washington, and Miami, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence. During their visit to Philadelphia, they posed with the governor of Pennsylvania in front of the Liberty Bell, a symbol of independence. In Washington, they attended the Bilderberg conference and were received by President Trump and First Lady Melania at the White House for dinner and overnight stay.

Queen Maxima promoted Dutch and Belgian designers, including Claes Iversen, Jan Taminiau, and Edouard Vermeulen from Natan, during the visit to Miami, which is a hub for trade between the U.S. and the Dutch Caribbean. The royal couple also engaged in a game of dominoes with members of the Latin American community in Little Havana.
