PROTECTION FÉDÉRALE

In mid-December 2025, the bill HR 845 “Protection of Pets and Livestock” was ratified by the House of Representatives. This text, which would revoke all federal protection for gray wolves in the 48 continental states without the possibility of legal recourse, is currently under review by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

YELLOWSTONE

Yellowstone National Park has a new matriarch. This is the 11-year-old female wolf known as 1090F, who has become the oldest wolf in Yellowstone – the average lifespan of wolves in the park being 5 to 6 years, the longevity of this wolf is remarkable. 1090F is a member of the Mollie pack, the oldest pack existing since the reintroduction in 1995.

Gray wolves seem to be the latest victims of Donald Trump’s retaliation campaign against Colorado.

CALIFORNIA

On the morning of February 7, a gray wolf ventured into Los Angeles County for the first time in over a century. The three-year-old female wolf known as BEY03F, born in 2023 in the Beyem Seyo pack in Plumas County, has crossed nearly the entire Sierra Nevada mountain range, likely in search of a partner.

MEXICAN GRAY WOLVES

The Mexican wolf is back in the wild in Durango state, Mexico, a historic success that has taken nearly 50 years to achieve. Thanks to intensive collaboration between the United States and Mexico, two families of four wolves each were transported to Durango in March 2026.

WYOMING

Cody Roberts, the individual who tortured and killed a young female wolf in early 2024, has finally been tried and sentenced to 18 months of supervised probation, with a ban on owning a firearm, hunting and fishing, entering any place that serves or sells alcohol, and possessing alcohol. His sentence includes a $1,000 fine, the obligation to provide a DNA sample, and to submit to an alcohol test at the request of his probation officer.
