In Louisiana, a suspected shooter killed eight children in a family violence incident before being shot by the police. The incident took place in Shreveport, marking the worst mass shooting in the US in over two years.
Police responded to a call about the violence and found victims in two residences. A third location is also under investigation, as mentioned by Corporal Chris Bordelon at a press conference.
At least 10 people were shot during the incident, with eight fatalities, aged between 1 and 14 years old. Some of the children were the suspect’s own, according to local reports. Two adult women were also injured, while a young man was hurt after leaping from a roof.
The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, was pursued by the police after hijacking a car and was later shot during the chase. Authorities believe he acted alone in the incident and no officers were harmed. Louisiana governor Jeff Landry expressed his condolences and prayers for all those affected.
This incident marks the deadliest mass shooting in the US since January 2024, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive.
