An act of heroism that undoubtedly saved lives. On Tuesday, April 7, the principal of a high school in the state of Oklahoma (United States) stopped a shooter who was planning an attack at the school, as reported by NBC News.
A former student of the high school
A camera captured the incredible intervention by the principal. In the footage, seen by millions on social media, the shooter is seen entering the building’s hallway with a weapon in hand. As he aims at a student sitting on a bench, the principal appears from behind and tackles him, pinning him to the bench.
An assistant then arrives and removes the weapon that the attacker had discarded. The suspect, a 20-year-old young man who previously attended the high school, was subsequently arrested and incarcerated. His bail was set at one million dollars, and he will appear for a preliminary hearing on May 8 before the court.
He wanted to imitate the Columbine killers
According to initial reports, the young man entered the school with two semi-automatic pistols belonging to his father. He admitted to the act and explained that he wanted to “carry out his own school shooting like the Columbine killers,” referring to the massacre that claimed 14 lives at an American high school in 1999.
The suspect intended to kill students, teachers, and the principal whom he “did not like,” according to his statements. Wounded in the leg by a bullet, the high school principal was hospitalized but stated on Friday that he was recovering well. “There is no doubt in my mind that he saved lives,” said the local police chief regarding the principal’s actions.
