Native Vote 2026
New Mexico gubernatorial candidate Deb Haaland (Laguna Pueblo) announced new endorsements this week from the New Mexico Working Families Party and Organized Power in Numbers as her campaign for governor continues to build support among labor and grassroots groups across the state.
The endorsements add to what Haaland’s campaign described as a growing coalition of organizations, advocates, and community leaders backing her bid to lead New Mexico.
“New Mexico Working Families Party and Organized Power in Numbers stand up for everyday New Mexicans who work to make ends meet and are facing higher costs on groceries, housing, and at the gas pump,†Haaland said. “I look forward to working alongside both organizations to uplift working families and create a New Mexico where every child has the opportunity to thrive.â€
According to the campaign, the endorsements further strengthen Haaland’s support among labor unions, grassroots advocates, and community organizations.
Haaland has emphasized workers’ rights and economic opportunity throughout her political career, arguing that strong unions and good-paying jobs are critical to helping families afford healthcare, retirement, and everyday expenses.
The campaign highlighted Haaland’s background as a working mother who once lived paycheck to paycheck, as well as her time in Congress, where she worked to protect healthcare programs during the Trump administration. As a cabinet secretary, Haaland also helped oversee federal investments aimed at increasing wages and creating jobs in New Mexico.
Education and workforce development remain central to Haaland’s platform. Earlier in the campaign, she unveiled an education proposal focused on expanding career pathways for students beginning in middle school. The plan encourages partnerships between schools and union apprenticeship programs to help train the next generation of skilled workers while addressing workforce shortages across the state.
Her broader affordability agenda also includes proposals to lower household costs, strengthen the workforce, support workers’ rights, and combat wage theft.
Since launching her campaign, Haaland has traveled to all 33 counties in New Mexico, meeting with parents, educators, students, and community members to discuss concerns ranging from affordability to education and economic opportunity.
The campaign said supporting workers and building a long-term workforce pipeline remain top priorities for Haaland as the gubernatorial race continues.
