Iran has prepared a mechanism to manage traffic through the Strait of Hormuz along a designated route that will be unveiled soon, the head of the Iranian parliament’s national security committee, Ebrahim Azizi, said on Saturday.

In a post on X/Twitter, Azizi stated that the mechanism was created in an effort to ensure “the guarantee of international trade security.â€

He added that only commercial vessels and parties cooperating with Iran’s leadership will be allowed to benefit from the new process.

Azizi explained that the mechanism would provide “specialized services†for which fees would be charged to any vessels that transit the strait under the new plan.

He also noted that “this route will remain closed to the operators of the so‑called ‘freedom project,’†in reference to the US’s Project Freedom, a now paused operation to guide vessels through the strait.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump told Fox News that he was considering renewing Project Freedom after having halted it on May 6, citing “great progress†in US-Iran peace negotiations as the reason for the pause.

The renewed project, Trump stated, would expand beyond escorting vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. He noted, however, that no final decision regarding the matter has been made.

Iran’s leadership has continually spoken out against the US operating to reopen and secure the safety of the Strait.

On May 3, Azizi decried the US efforts as ceasefire violations, asserting that “any American interference in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire†in a post on X/Twitter.

He decried the US efforts as “Blame Game scenarios,†adding that “the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf would not be managed by Trump’s delusional posts.â€
