Two and a half months after the first Israeli-American strikes on Iran, have the military capabilities of the Islamic Republic really been reduced as Donald Trump keeps saying? According to American intelligence, it seems far from the case.
Confidential reports mentioned on Wednesday, May 13 by The New York Times, “Iran has retained significant missile capabilities.” More specifically, the American newspaper adds, “several elements indicate that Iran has restored operational access to 30 of the 33 missile sites along the Strait of Hormuz, which constitutes a potential threat to US warships and oil tankers passing through.”
“Iran has retained about 75% of its pre-war stocks of mobile launchers and about 70% of its missile stocks,” complements The Washington Post, which also relies on a CIA report communicated at the beginning of the month to American leaders. According to an American official cited by the capital’s newspaper, “the regime has managed to refurbish and reopen almost all of its underground storage facilities, repair some damaged missiles, and even assemble new missiles that were almost completed.”
