Starting this Friday and for the long weekend, Total’s special fixed price operation is launched in all group stations. The price of gasoline is set at €1.99 per liter, and diesel at €2.09. The other distributors denounce this commercial operation. The FF3C, the French Federation of Fuels, Fuels and Heating, representing 800 stations, will file a complaint with the Competition Authority. According to the union, this price cap is predatory.

From Matignon’s side, Total does not benefit from the crisis. This fixed price operation is, according to government spokesperson Maud Bregeon, a way “to redistribute a portion of its profits to the French people.” These measures were also praised by the Minister of SMEs, Commerce, Crafts, Tourism, and Purchasing Power, Serge Papin, who assured that there are no supply problems and therefore no canceled flights this summer, thanks to the giant oil company.

Meanwhile in France, TotalEnergies profits have surged by 51% to €5 billion. These staggering figures have revived calls to tax these “superprofits,” although the efficiency of such fiscal measures is often disappointing. This point was highlighted in a 2024 study on the tax on super oil profits voted in December 2022.
