In Montpellier, the cultural scene is rich with jazz, graphic arts, and contemporary creations this midweek. On Thursday, May 7th, the Jam des Jedis highlights nu-jazz, soul, and funk with the quartet Jeenko at the Jam session. Meanwhile, at the Espace Saint-Ravy, the exhibition “En commun l’inconnu” brings together artists from the Maison de la Gravure Méditerranée around printmaking and artist books. Additionally, Tropisme is hosting the Hyperactive festival featuring exhibitions, music, dance, and workshops.
The Jam des Jedis: Nu-jazz, soul, funk, and broken beat take center stage in this fourth episode of the Jam des Jedis. Led by the quartet Jeenko, the evening welcomes all those who want to play in these styles. The event also includes a weekly conference on the history of jazz and popular music presented by Bernard Baldous discussing “hero musicians of American cinema” at 6:30 PM. En commun l’inconnu: In connection with the Comédie du Livre’s “10 jours en mai” and the National Printmaking Festival, twenty-six artists from Maison de la Gravure Méditerranée (MGM) present collective works. The exhibition showcases large-format engravings inspired by a poem by Violaine Guillerm. Also on display are artist books created during residencies or workshops, and the construction of a collective book open to the public to observe. Workshops are also available. From Wednesday, May 6th to Sunday, May 24th, Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM to 1 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM at Espace Saint-Ravy, Montpellier. Free entry.
Hyperactive: It’s this Wednesday, and for three weeks, that the first festival uniting creative structures in the Cit&ecute; créative has been launched at Tropisme. The program includes exhibitions, music, dance, screenings, children’s workshops. Program details available on tropisme.coop.
