REPORTAGE. Its becoming extremely dangerous: in Gaza, the Israeli army continues its operations

Will the war resume in the Palestinian enclave? Nickolay Mladenov, director of the Peace Council, responsible for implementing Donald Trump’s peace plan, was in Israel on Monday, May 4, to advance negotiations that have been at a standstill since the American President declared a ceasefire last October.

On the ground, the Israeli army continues to target presumed enemies, humanitarian aid is lacking, Palestinians from Gaza are leaving slowly via Rafah in the south, and the Hebrew state continues to encroach on more territory. The yellow line separating the occupied enclave from the space administered by Hamas is shifting.

The yellow line is a poorly defined and now shifting virtual border. On one side, the Israeli army and its auxiliary militias, on the other, two million Palestinians, over half of whom live in the most exposed tents near this yellow line. Ahmani, a resident of the al-Touffah district in northeastern Gaza city, says: “Yes, they are advancing, it is becoming extremely dangerous. We fear the drones and gunshots.”

According to the research firm Forensic Architecture, the occupied area has expanded from 53 to 58% of the total surface area of Gaza, with the evaluation dating back to last December. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the civil defense of the enclave, speaks to Ferial Abdou. According to him, “the yellow line is a serious problem. Anyone who comes within 200 or 300 meters is targeted. The line moves all the time, especially during an escalation of violence, it does not correspond to the terms of the ceasefire.”

According to the United Nations, Israel has killed over 700 Palestinians since the ceasefire last October, with 269 dead near this yellow line, including over a hundred children or teenagers. In response to inquiries from franceinfo, the Israeli army states that it only acts against hostile elements and immediate threats in accordance with international law.
