    Montpellier, the weekend of April 17-19 promises to be rich in cultural and festive events, with circus, cinema, music, and comedy. From the 5th edition of Arlette’s circus at Sophie Desmarets Park to concerts by Amel Bent and the Opera Orchestra, to the revenge trilogy at Diagonal and outdoor electro events, the offerings are varied, accessible, and open to all audiences.

    Arlette’s circus returns for its 5th edition in the Mosson district, featuring contemporary circus, concerts, and entertainment. The pleasant Sophie Desmarets park transforms into an artistic playground for the whole family. The day starts at 2 pm with a traditional circus cabaret, followed by performances blending dance and Chinese mast from 4 pm. The evening continues with music and entertainment events to provide a family-friendly and inclusive atmosphere.

    Throughout the day, there will be circus workshops for children, activities, collective murals, and community stands to complement the program for a family-friendly and accessible spirit.

    On Saturday, Park Chan-wook, a major South Korean director known for his “Vengeance Trilogy,” will be showcased at Diagonal over the weekend. The trilogy includes “Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance” (2002), “Oldboy” (2003), and “Lady Vengeance” (2005), exploring themes of violence, complexity, and revenge.

    Visions association is organizing “The Picnic,” a large outdoor festive event at the restaurant “La Table de Pierre Rouge” with light assortments. The day will feature music by six DJs, creative and artistic stands, and activities for children.

    The Montpellier National Opera Orchestra presents a grand symphonic concert evening under the theme of “Virtuosity and Destiny,” exploring how composers transformed fate into monumental musical pieces. The evening will feature works by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich.

    Louis Cattelat presents “Arecibo,” a show that uses astronomy as a metaphor for human relationships, exploring the absurdity of communication and connections. The performance promises to be thought-provoking and humorous.

    Amel Bent’s 2026 tour symbolizes personal resilience and a childhood dream come true after two decades of her career. The tour is not just a series of concerts but a culmination of emotional experiences and universal themes shared with the audience.
