A new urban farm has been created in the heart of Draguignan.
This vertical urban farm dedicated to the cultivation of microgreens has just been created under the QSF brand – Quest for flavors and freshness. Located in the city center, this local production is intended for restaurants, caterers, and AMAPs (Association for the Maintenance of Peasant Agriculture).
Microgreens are the tender young shoots of vegetables or herbs that are harvested just a few days after germination. They are known for their high nutritional density and intense flavors, which explain their increasing use by chefs and restaurant professionals.
The farm operates on a vertical farming system, where microgreens are grown in height on several levels in a controlled environment.
This method is part of an eco-responsible approach: the crops are grown without pesticides or fertilizers, only using light and water.
The production of microgreens remains very limited in the Var region, with only a few identified producers.
On the French Riviera, there are approximately ten producers.
On a national scale, this market is still emerging, with a few hundred specialized producers in France.
For comparison, North America has a much more developed market with several thousand producers.
