Professional artists from around the world (China, Brazil, Colombia, Spain, Greece, Brittany, Basque Country) will present their artistic practices while tattooing on site.

The organizer, Gaetan Meuree of the Vahine Eteora association – which promotes Polynesian culture through various cultural activities – hopes to attract “around 5,000 people over the two days” as in previous editions.

The event will feature different types of tattoos: traditional, Polynesian, Japanese, modern, and graphic. Over 160 tattoo artists as well as regional artisans (jewelry, engravings, decor, etc.) will be present. Skateboarding will also be represented, thanks to ramp modules for sports initiation.

“It’s a big celebration around tattooing! This event creates a unique atmosphere and allows for meetings between enthusiasts,” according to the organizer. “A contest, held on Saturday, allows for the discovery of exceptional artists from around the world.”

Vatea Labbeyi, a Polynesian tattoo artist based in Biscarrosse-Plage for 25 years, will be participating. According to this professional with over 30 years of experience, “this art has been ingrained in the lives of Polynesians for millennia. Tattooing is our culture. Back then, each tribe had its own tattoo, which allowed them to recognize each other.”

Passionate about traditional techniques and the ancestral history of tattooing, Vatea plans to promote this family culture during the convention. “Beyond the visual aspect, tattoos have a spiritual, sacred dimension. It’s a matter of energy and sometimes divine protection through a message engraved in the skin. These symbols tell our own story and reflect our personality. For example, a shark represents strength and vigilance, while waves symbolize the journey,” explains Vatea.

“These traditions have evolved and this art remains individual. The symbols are personal to each individual, it’s a personal initiation,” adds the Polynesian tattoo artist.

The convention will be open at the exhibition center on Saturday from 10:30 am to midnight and on Sunday from 10:30 am to 9 pm. Entrance fee: 12 euros for the day (20 euros for the weekend pass), free for individuals under 16 years old accompanied by an adult.
