India, in partnership with the African Union Commission, will host the 4th India-Africa Summit (IAFS-IV) in New Delhi on May 31, 2026. This demonstrates India’s continued commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the African continent.

The IAFS-IV will bring together leaders from across Africa, representatives from the African Union Commission, and regional African organizations to enhance the enduring partnership between India and Africa. The summit aims to define a roadmap for further expanding cooperation in various common interest sectors.

Leading up to the summit, a series of preparatory meetings will be held. The meeting of foreign ministers from India and Africa is scheduled for May 29, 2026, preceded by a meeting of senior officials on May 28. These gatherings will focus on key areas of cooperation such as digital infrastructure, health, education, energy, agriculture, and industrial development.

With the theme “The Spirit of India & Africa – A Strategic India-Africa Partnership for Innovation, Resilience, and Inclusive Transformation,” the summit seeks to highlight the comprehensive and multidimensional nature of the partnership between India and Africa.

This high-level meeting signifies a new phase in mutual commitment, with a particular emphasis on digital transformation, economic growth, strategic cooperation, and inclusive development. India’s engagement with Africa is based on principles of equality, mutual respect, and shared progress.

The partnership between India and Africa has seen notable progress in recent years, with increased bilateral exchanges and India emerging as a major development partner through lines of credit, capacity-building programs, and digital initiatives. The Indian diaspora in Africa, numbering over three million and highly active, continues to bridge the gap between the two populations, contributing to economic relations and mutual understanding on cultural and human levels.

The summit is expected to build on this positive momentum by opening new avenues for cooperation in areas such as digital public infrastructure, renewable energy, healthcare, and industrial development. In addition to governmental exchanges, business forums and engagements among key private sector players are set to significantly boost economic and commercial partnerships.

This summit will further strengthen a partnership rooted in shared history, mutual respect, and converging aspirations. India has consistently emphasized Africa’s central position in its foreign policy, advocating for more equitable representation of Southern countries in international forums.

This high-level meeting reaffirms a renewed commitment to enhancing cooperation between two major players in the global South, representing over a third of the world’s population. The 4th India-Africa Summit marks a significant milestone in strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Africa, further solidifying their partnership within the framework of South-South cooperation. It will also showcase initiatives and progress made over the past decade in good governance and inclusive development.
