At the end of the state visit to China from April 14 to 17, 2026 by the General Secretary of the Party and President of the Republic, Tế Lâm, accompanied by his wife and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lạ Hoắi Trung, granted an interview to the press to present the main results and orientations.

The meeting between the two party and state leaders allowed for in-depth strategic exchanges, accompanied by the signing of multiple agreements covering various areas.

The Vietnamese Foreign Minister emphasized that the visit had resulted in “particularly important, rich, and strategically significant” outcomes. Firstly, both parties reaffirmed the priority importance of bilateral relations in their respective foreign policies, with the common will to elevate them to a higher level in the new context. Secondly, the two leaders engaged in frank and in-depth discussions on each country’s situation, regional and international developments, as well as bilateral relations, leading to important consensus and the definition of key cooperation directions for a more substantial and effective partnership. Concrete proposals were made to enhance connections in key areas such as the economy, investment, infrastructure, science and technology, education-training, and people-to-people exchanges. Thirdly, the two parties agreed on major guidelines to elevate Vietnam – China relations to a new level. They also emphasized the need to accelerate connectivity between the two economies, promote trade exchanges and investments, and closely cooperate on strategic projects, particularly in railways. Fourthly, the two leaders emphasized the importance of coordination and mutual support in international forums, contributing to consolidating a peaceful and stable environment conducive to the development of each country.

Looking ahead, Minister Lạ Hoắi Trung indicated that the leaders of both countries will pay special attention to the effective implementation of the concluded agreements. Ministries, sectors, localities, and businesses will be called upon to develop concrete action plans to fully exploit the cooperation potential in each area.

He also highlighted the Chinese side’s readiness to develop mechanisms and specific measures to support the implementation of agreements, opening up new prospects for substantial and sustainable development of Vietnam – China relations.
