According to the correspondent of the Vietnamese news agency in Beijing, on April 17, the “People’s Daily” – the official organ of the Chinese Communist Party – published an editorial titled “Leading the construction of a Sino-Vietnamese community of shared future on the path of rapid development,” affirming that regardless of changes in the international situation, China still considers Vietnam a priority in its foreign policy towards its neighbors.

The article states that on April 15, Chinese President and Secretary General Xi Jinping held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart To Lam during his state visit to China. The two parties had in-depth discussions on strategic and common issues, resulting in many important agreements. The strategic leadership of the top leaders of both parties and countries has propelled the construction of the Sino-Vietnamese community of shared future on the path of rapid development.

China and Vietnam are two friendly socialist neighbors and strategically important partners, united by a common future. In recent years, the top leaders of both parties and countries have held numerous direct meetings, fully demonstrating the deep friendship between China and Vietnam, seen as “fraternal comrades.” The leadership of the Communist Party is the essential characteristic and greatest asset of socialism. Protecting the socialist system and the dominant position of the Communist Party is the paramount common strategic order of the two parties.

The article argues that youth is an essential driving force for development and social progress, and it is the inheritor of the cause for both parties and their respective countries. During this visit, Secretary General and President Xi Jinping and Secretary General and President To Lam met with young Chinese and Vietnamese people participating in the “Red Journey for Research and Study” program. This initiative highlights the importance the two countries place on nurturing the next generation, with the aim of mobilizing youth in service of the socialist cause and building a strategically important Sino-Vietnamese community of shared future. China and Vietnam are working together in modernization, bringing greater benefits to their populations. During his visit, Secretary General and President To Lam traveled on a high-speed train, allowing him to directly witness the dynamism of Chinese development. For over twenty years, China has been Vietnam’s top trading partner, while Vietnam is China’s top trading partner within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the fourth globally. The two countries have strong economic and trade ties and share many common interests. During this visit, the two parties signed bilateral cooperation agreements in various areas, including the economy, supply chain cooperation, customs cooperation, science and technology, social protection, and human resource development.

In a context of profound global upheavals, cooperation between China and Vietnam for the construction of a community of shared future is essential for maintaining peace and development at regional and global levels. Faced with the rise of protectionism and the numerous challenges posed by economic globalization, the development of all nations is affected. In this context, China and Vietnam have jointly opted for open cooperation, collectively opposing unilateralism and protectionism, and committing to preserving the global system of free trade, as well as the stability and proper functioning of supply chains and industries. This cooperation will help to create a more favorable international environment for the development of each country.

The article concludes that regardless of changes in the international situation, China will always prioritize Vietnam in its foreign policy towards neighboring countries. China is determined to uphold its original aspirations and friendship with Vietnam, working together, in a spirit of solidarity and mutual support, to promote a high-quality comprehensive strategic cooperation, in line with six priority objectives, and to accelerate the construction of a Sino-Vietnamese community of shared future, which holds major strategic importance.
