For its third round of fundraising, the Breton agritech company Agriodor raised 15 million euros. This operation was carried out with Crédit Mutuel Impact through its Revolution Environmental and Solidarity fund, the Sud Investissement region, CAAP Création from Crédit Agricole Alpes-Provence, and the historical shareholders Capagro, Ambra Capital, and Swen Capital Partners. This new capital increase is intended to allow the company to deploy its biocontrol solutions using natural scents in Spain and Brazil.
“We are convinced that the future of crop protection lies in biology, not chemistry. With this fundraising, we affirm the transformation of Agriodor from a leading French Agtech startup to a global specialist in biocontrol through odors. Our technology offers farmers an effective tool to preserve yields, the environment, and human health,” said Alain Thibault, co-founder with Dr. Ené Leppik of Agriodor in 2019, in Rennes.
The company is developing a new generation of crop protection solutions using scents based on natural odors emitted by plants to influence insect behavior. “Odor is a universal language among insects that we have decoded. Our technology offers a revolution in crop protection, effective, residue-free, and respectful of biodiversity, for use alone or in combination with any other crop protection tool,” added Dr. Ené Leppik. Their approach represents an alternative to insecticides, especially as the agricultural sector faces increasing resistance among pests and tightening regulatory frameworks.
Recently, Agriodor achieved a world first by deploying the first semio-chemical (allomone) in large crops, an innovation for sugar beet in France. This new fundraising is intended to allow the company to apply this technology to new crops and insect families, accelerate the commercial growth of the company in Europe and internationally, and continue to develop R&D capabilities through artificial intelligence.
A portfolio of biocontrol solutions
The company’s first product, targeting sugar beet aphids, is marketed through an exclusive distribution agreement with Syngenta, supporting French sugar beet producers in the fight against yellows. Agriodor is now expanding its portfolio to include biocontrol solutions for new crops and insect families such as fruit flies, whiteflies, and thrips – markets collectively worth over 4 billion dollars. With 8 patents spread across three families, Agriodor employs 42 staff, including 8 doctors. To further increase its impact, 15 R&D partnerships have been established in Europe, China, and Brazil.
