Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, ranked 10th in the world, has advanced to the final of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, where she will face American Coco Gauff, ranked 4th in the world. Svitolina defeated the 3rd-ranked Polish player Iga Swiatek in a tough match with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Svitolina, a 31-year-old who has won the Italian tournament on clay twice before (in 2017 and 2018), will be aiming for her 20th WTA title on Saturday, which will be her second title this year and fifth WTA 1000 title, the most prestigious category after the Grand Slams.

On the other hand, Gauff, a 22-year-old American, will be competing in her second consecutive final in Rome after defeating Romanian Sorana Cirstea in straight sets (6-4, 6-3). Cirstea, aged 36, will retire at the end of the season.

Gauff, seeking her 12th title and her first of the year, has shown strong performance throughout the tournament, despite facing challenges in previous matches. Reflecting on her journey, Gauff mentioned that her victory over Iva Jovic in the quarterfinals was a turning point for her game.

Looking ahead to the final, Svitolina, who leads their head-to-head matchups by three wins to two, expressed her anticipation for the upcoming match against Gauff, acknowledging their past encounters and the strength of their rivalry.

In their most recent meetings this year, Svitolina emerged victorious in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and the semifinals of the WTA 1000 event in Dubai. Svitolina reflected on their intense battles and mentioned her excitement to revisit their previous duel before the final showdown in Rome.
