After the conclusion of the Ligue 2 season, Stade de Reims has announced, in a very brief statement, the end of its collaboration with Belgian coach Karel Geraerts. Finishing 6th in Ligue 2 at the end of the 2025-26 season, the Reims club had sealed the fate of their coach several weeks ago.

This development was not a surprise given the behind-the-scenes environment in recent weeks and recent statements. However, as of this Thursday, the situation is official. Stade de Reims has officially parted ways with Karel Geraerts. Hired a year ago to kick off the club’s promotion operation, the Belgian coach matched the playing style profile desired by the management. However, the expected results did not materialize. The management was recently displeased with his handling of the team and matches, especially the substitutions.

This led both parties to quickly agree on the termination of their collaboration. “Stade de Reims and Karel Geraerts have jointly decided to end their collaboration. At the end of the 2025-2026 season, and considering the expectations for this season, both parties have chosen not to continue this journey together,” the club statement said. Karel Geraerts will leave with a rather mixed record of his time in Champagne: 6th place in Ligue 2 (14 wins, 14 draws, 6 losses) despite some good successes and several clean sheets, as well as a quarter-final berth in the Coupe de France.

His Replacement has been Revealed

The name of his replacement on the Reims bench is expected to be announced in the coming hours. While the direction initially leaned towards Olivier Dall’Oglio, according to several colleagues, the choice may now shift towards Nicolas Usaña. The experienced Ligue 2 coach has been without a club since January. Before that, he had stints at Nîmes, Châteauroux, and more recently, Pau, as well as Sedan a few years ago.
