Approaching the announcement of the French national team squad for the 2026 World Cup, Corentin Tolisso doesn’t seem to believe in a return to the blue jersey despite his performances with OL.
Didier Deschamps will unveil his squad for the 2026 World Cup in four days, Thursday afternoon. With 31 days left before the start of the competition (June 11- July 19), the French coach is certainly refining his final choices before the long-awaited announcement, while hoping that the players he has chosen do not get injured during the last matches of the season.
Corentin Tolisso will certainly not hold back this Sunday with OL during the 33rd matchday of Ligue 1 on the pitch. First, because the Lyon club is fighting to qualify directly for the Champions League next season. But also because the chances of him being recalled by Didier Deschamps are slim, or almost nonexistent. Last March, when facing the absence of Manu Koné, the French coach chose not to call up any replacements.
Tolisso: “I will have no regrets”
Corentin Tolisso (28 caps, 2 goals) seems to have given up on the blue jersey, after having believed in it for a while. “I work, today I really focus on my club and on securing a place in the Champions League,” said the captain of the Gones to Telefoot on Sunday. We’ll see what happens in life. But the most important thing for me today is OL.”
The 2018 World Cup champion, who thinks he is having the “best season” of his career, simply doesn’t see what more he could do to convince Didier Deschamps. “If I did what was necessary? Well, exactly,” he added. “I will have no regrets. That’s what matters.” Corentin Tolisso has not been called up by the coach since a training camp in June 2021, while he was still playing for Bayern Munich. Didier Deschamps currently doesn’t see a role for him in the French national team, even though he has the authorization to select 26 players for the 2026 World Cup, three more than usual.
