The celebration will have to wait for Le Mans. While they thought they were officially in Ligue 1 after scoring a second goal against Bastia in injury time, the Le Mans players were forced to return to the locker room after smoke bombs and agricultural bombs were thrown. The match was officially stopped after a somewhat vague statement, as a final decision will need to be made quickly before the start of the Ligue 2 playoffs, with the first one scheduled to start on Tuesday, May 12.

“Following the incidents and after an announcement by the speaker to calm the madness of the Bastia supporters, it was decided to return to the locker room for the safety of the players. A crisis meeting took place and the decision was made. Given the circumstances, we decided to definitively stop the match,” indicated Ruddy Buquet, the referee of the match. However, regardless of the final result, SC Bastia is relegated to Ligue 3 after Laval’s victory over Boulogne-sur-mer.
