It took a world-class gesture from Michael Olise to give Bayern Munich a precious victory at the Volkswagen Arena (1-0) this Saturday on the 33rd matchday of the Bundesliga.
In a match long dominated by an unrecognizable VfL Wolfsburg team, the French international turned the game around in the 56th minute with a sumptuous strike. The play started on the right. Served by Konrad Laimer, who had just come on after the break, Michael Olise found himself facing Joakim Mährle. A double stepover, sharp elimination, and then a curled left-footed shot that hit the crossbar before nestling in the far corner. A gem. A goal that reflects the Frenchman’s season: decisive, aesthetic, and efficient.
Bayern Munich clinches victory in pain
The timing was all the more valuable as Bayern had a tough time. In the first half, Wolfsburg suffocated the German champions, creating chances and taking advantage of the Bavarians’ mistakes. Without a heroic Jonas Urbig in goal and a missed penalty by Harry Kane in the 36th minute, the Englishman slipping at the moment of the shot, the Wolfsburg Wolves could have been ahead. The second half changed everything: Vincent Kompany adjusted his midfield, and Olise took control of the game.
After opening the scoring, the Frenchman could even have doubled the lead in the 72nd minute, but his shot on Kane’s precise lob went over the bar. Wolfsburg pushed until the end, with Svanberg hitting the post in the 89th minute, but they couldn’t equalize.
