A challenging race. The message of La Marseillaise des femmes is clear: bring together around women’s health and rights. Several thousand people are preparing to take part in the 16th edition of this event, which brought together more than 10,000 participants during a record edition last year.
As every year since its creation, the peloton, made up predominantly of women – men can only participate by invitation and the willingness to give up ranking – will have to cover a distance of 5.4 km between the Prado beaches and the Escale Borély. “Every year we try to bring people together in a warm and festive atmosphere, to do sports while supporting charitable causes,” says Christine Rollais, president of the Marseillaises club, the organizing association.
Part of the registration fees will be donated to the Foundation for Medical Research, as part of the fight against breast cancer, and to Amnesty International for the defense of women’s rights. This initiative follows the initiatives launched by the organization since the last edition. La Marseillaise des femmes has notably supported the Foundation for Medical Research during Pink October, before launching the “Resist” operation in favor of Amnesty International in March. Since 2010, over €175,000 has been donated to these two charitable associations.
