Those things that always happen, for those who desire it the most, the word victory. As on the way there, Bourg made Villefranche bend the knee, not by dominating outrageously, but by putting the necessary ingredients to win, with the same score (1-0) that speaks to undeniable know-how in this type of closely contested duel.
With that extra bit of soul that often tips the scales in its favor, FBBP01, playing without a safety net since Châteauroux tricked Dijon (1-2), Thursday evening, in a surprising twist of fate, fought hard to never let the Caladois have the opportunity to spoil the Verchère stadium, so close to the end of the National league that has not yet revealed all its truths, both at the top and the bottom.
Once again, everything came down to a tiny detail, a poorly assured pass back by Louzif to Tshibuabua, who was forced to illegally stop Cissé in the penalty area, with Besic converting the penalty shortly after halftime (1-0, 46th minute).
Villefranche had possession but couldn’t capitalize

That was the only goal of a match that Villefranche had managed well in the first half, holding possession that seemed to hint at a possible shift in favor of the Beaujolais side in the second half.
For a long time in the first half, with a higher line than the Bressans, the Caladois controlled the midfield and had the best opportunities, like Touho’s shot following a Mixtur cross resulting from Kena Kabeya’s strong run, but Boulhendi in the Aindinois net was alert to preserve his team’s chances (19th minute).
It was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams responding with sharp transitions, some fouls occasionally dampening the spirit of this open derby. Meyer’s free-kick, the best Bressan of the night, gave Pian some work (22nd minute), but didn’t result in any consequences for the Caladois.
One could say that FCVB’s luck had run out. Because in the second half, there were hardly any dangerous situations around captain Lacour, a master of his defense, in managing the rare Caladois attacks.
Bourg is not yet safe…

Bourg ended this derby much better, with their final thrusts near the Pian penalty area. It was close for Cissé (81st minute) and Meyer (90th minute + 2) to add a second goal for their team.
Having been exempt from the last matchday, the Bressans have one match left – on May 9th hosting Valenciennes – to determine whether the story of this derby between Bourg and Villefranche will continue in the next season in Ligue 3. It’s a small margin.
As for the Caladois, they will face Concarneau in thirteen days to close their season, hoping to avoid ending on three consecutive defeats after the essential had already been preserved long before.
