Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola explained that he did not watch PSG-Bayern Munich live, humorously stating that he “checked the schedule” and thought “what a crappy match.” Guardiola was seen in the stands at a third-division English match while the spectacular Champions League fixture was being played. He was questioned in a press conference about choosing to attend the League One match between Stockport County and Port Vale instead of watching the enticing first-leg semi-final between Parisian and Bayern Munich, his former club.
“I checked the schedule the day before, PSG-Bayern Munich, and I thought ‘what a crappy match.’ The coaches are not good, Luis (Enrique) and ‘Vinny’ (Kompany). Really, really bad, shitty players! So I decided to go. I love English football, and I went to see Stockport,” he replied mockingly. In reality, “I watched the match on my way back from Stockport,” and “I will be on my couch” watching the second leg in Germany next Wednesday, he added.
Guardiola is one of those who prefer to appreciate the spectacle offered by two teams not giving up on their style of play, rather than focusing on defensive mistakes at the Parc des Princes. “It’s nice. That’s football,” Guardiola rejoiced. “It was a good match, and the next day (Atletico Madrid-Arsenal, editor’s note), in a different style, it was also a good match.” Manchester City, champions of Europe in 2023, were eliminated this season in the round of 16 by Real Madrid.
