After two years in China (Beijing Guoan) and two more seasons at Rennes, it looks like Bruno Genesio is heading for another two-year stint at Lille.
The era of Bruno Genesio at LOSC appears to have run its course. Following rumors of a rejected resignation earlier in the season, and the ongoing strain of working alongside president Olivier Letang, the former coach of OL and Stade Rennais is expected to be replaced for the upcoming 2026-2027 season, according to Mohamed Toubache-Ter. He suggested that Genesio himself made the decision: “He wanted to leave last summer. He had problems with his agents and wanted to finish the season at Lille properly.”
“If properly” to the extent that the Dogues, after a significant slump in the heart of winter, have surged back into the Champions League race, level on points with third-placed Lyon… But even if they qualify for the C1, nothing would change. So much so that the northern leaders are already considering a future successor, preferably a non-French profile. Stéphane Dumont, a former player who recently promoted Troyes to Ligue 1, has supporters internally, but the priority seems to lean towards a foreign profile.
And what about Bruno Genesio? According to reports, “Marseille is the only club in France that could excite him… if the club is interested, of course!” Would this possibility ignite the Marseille fans? It’s not a unanimous agreement, as always, but Pascal Olmeta is fully on board and has even spoken out (to La Provence): “We need a French coach like him. He knows several clubs and it has always worked well. He knows how to manage a group 100%, with all the aspects. Because Marseille is unique… This season, we hired a coach who had just been fired elsewhere, whereas we could have just continued with ‘Pancho’ Abardonado, who is close to the players.”
