A new adventure begins for Pablo Longoria. The former president of Olympique de Marseille will not be without work for long. Thanked in February by the club from Marseille, he was appointed sports director of River Plate, the Argentine football club announced on Tuesday.

This recruitment comes as President Stefano Di Carlo has launched a modernization project for the four-time Copa Libertadores champion club, the equivalent of the Champions League in South America, with the aim of increasing the capacity of its monumental stadium in Buenos Aires to 101,000.

Pablo Longoria, 39, will be responsible for overseeing “the professional team, training, recruitment, contract management, performance analysis, and sports development,” River Plate specified in a statement.

A recruitment specialist with an illustrious career, Longoria has previously worked for Newcastle United, Juventus, and Valencia CF before taking the helm at OM in 2020 at just 34 years old.

After over five years at the helm of the Marseille club, Longoria, a rarity in this position, was ousted in February by Frank McCourt without bringing any titles.
