After being eliminated from the Champions League by PSG, Chelsea is struggling in the Premier League. They suffered their fifth consecutive defeat in the championship, losing 3-0 to Brighton on Tuesday, which has put Chelsea in a tough spot. Liam Rosenior, the coach of Chelsea, is now under pressure. A shortlist has already been drawn up to replace him.
Liam Rosenior seems closer than ever to leaving Chelsea. Following the heavy loss to Brighton on Tuesday night, Chelsea is now in 7th place in the Premier League, trailing by 7 points from the 5th position, which is qualifying for the Champions League. This situation seems unsustainable for the Blues.
While Chelsea had been supporting Liam Rosenior and planning to continue with him in the short and medium term, the situation has changed. The recent defeats, the team’s reaction in the last few matches (especially against Brighton), and the general atmosphere have led the Blues’ management to consider parting ways with the English coach, who arrived in early January 2026.
His departure is a possibility even though it has not been finalized as of Wednesday morning. Meetings have been held between the leaders to determine the best way to finish the season. If Liam Rosenior has to leave the club, a shortlist has been established to find his replacement.
Several profiles are being considered, including Andoni Iraola, who will be leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season and has already had initial contact. Chelsea may appoint an interim coach until the end of the season to buy more time to choose their future coach or to appoint a current coach. To prepare for Andoni Iraola’s departure, Bournemouth has already announced his successor. Marco Rose will lead the Cherries for the next three seasons.
Other names on the shortlist include Edin Terzic, the former coach of Borussia Dortmund, who is highly sought after and is expected to join a club soon. It remains to be seen if he will move to London.
