LE SCAN SPORT – After a statement by Victor Wembanyama expressing his desire to try rugby, UBB manager Yannick Bru has invited the Frenchman to Bordeaux.
An unlikely meeting? French phenomenon Victor Wembanyama expressed his desire to try rugby in an interview with ESPN, UBB manager Yannick Bru responded positively to the request.
“There’s one thing I wanted to do, but couldn’t do last year, which is train with a rugby team. It’s the movement patterns that my body is not used to doing. And I could transfer it to what I do in basketball. It’s very interesting,” the 22-year-old basketball player said.
During a press conference before the trip to La Rochelle (this Saturday, 2:30 p.m.), Yannick Bru invited “Wemby” to come train in Bordeaux. “The doors are wide open. I think there will be a really happy guy on the staff, Shaun Sowerby, given how stressed he is on the touchline, it should simplify things for him. Tell Victor he is welcome at UBB and we will use his skills.”
For now, and before the possibility of a future collaboration, UBB and Victor Wembanyama are focused on other goals. After their win against Toulouse in the Champions Cup (30-15) last weekend, the Bordeaux team is now focused on the semi-final against Bath (May 3). Before that, Bru’s team will play in La Rochelle this Saturday in the 21st round of the Top 14 and will host Montpellier the following weekend. As for Wembanyama, the NBA playoffs with the Spurs will begin overnight from Sunday to Monday, facing Portland.
