In a change of program for the 33rd day of Ligue 1, the match scheduled for Saturday, May 9, has been moved to the next day, Sunday. Eight matches will be on the agenda, with the Lens-Nantes match being moved to Friday, May 7.
The schedule change for the 33rd day of Ligue 1… and Racing Club de Strasbourg is not unrelated. The qualification of the Alsace team for the semi-finals of the Conference League has indeed disrupted the programming of the penultimate day of the French championship, with a multiplex originally scheduled for Saturday, May 9.
But with the return leg of the Conference League semi-final scheduled for Thursday, May 7, just two days prior, it was impossible for Strasbourg to play back-to-back matches. The Professional Football League (LFP) confirmed on Friday the postponement of a matchday to Sunday, May 10 (at 9 pm), for the matches originally scheduled for the previous day. As a result, the UNFP Trophies ceremony, originally set for that date, will also be postponed by 24 hours to Monday, May 11.
The multiplex for the 33rd day will not include nine but only eight matches. Following the controversial postponement of the Lens-Paris SG clash, initially planned for Saturday, April 11, to Wednesday, May 13, to allow Parisians to prepare for their Champions League quarter-final, despite Lens’ negative response, the LFP wanted to make amends.
To give the Sang et Or team time to prepare for this crucial match in the title race, if everything is not decided beforehand, the LFP proposed to advance their scheduled match against Nantes by one day, to Friday, May 8. This proposal was accepted by Lens, meaning they will not participate in the multiplex just a week before the end of the season.
