UEFA has published the team of the week in the Champions League. Parisians Marquinhos and Dembélé are included, unlike Willian Pacho and Matveï Safonov.
Absentees of note. As is customary every week in the Champions League, UEFA has unveiled the eleven best players who graced the pitches of the most beautiful of European competitions on Tuesday and Wednesday. And it’s safe to say that this fictional team will spark debate.
For example, Parisians Willian Pacho and Matveï Safonov were overlooked after delivering an outstanding performance against Liverpool this Tuesday at Anfield (PSG’s 2-0 victory). Their teammates Marquinhos and Ousmane Dembélé, on the other hand, were rewarded for their fine display.
Three Frenchmen rewarded. Bayern Munich is represented by three players: the Frenchmen Dayot Upamecano and Michael Olise (voted man of the match) as well as German midfielder Joshua Kimmich. Real Madrid, eliminated by the Bavarians, only has one representative in Arda Gürler, who scored a superb brace.
Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Juan Musso was also lauded, along with his teammate Marcos Llorente in midfield and Sporting defender Eduardo Quaresma. Martín Zubimendi is the sole Arsenal player present, similar to Ferran Torres for FC Barcelona at the forefront of the attack.
