The 79th Cannes Film Festival shines a spotlight on Chinese cinema with the screening of the Chinese film “My World Without Me” directed by Tian Hairong. The film received warm applause and praise from audiences worldwide, sparking valuable feedback and suggestions.

At the China Pavilion, the creative team of the film participated in a thematic panel titled “The Power of Images and Care for the Soul,” engaging in a sincere dialogue with filmmakers and viewers from different backgrounds on life and adversity themes.

“Mon monde sans moi” was meticulously crafted over seven years, exploring the world of people silently battling hidden depression, conveying love and hope through everyday silences and ordinary moments. The film embodies the restrained aesthetics and human warmth characteristic of Chinese realist cinema, offering an oriental perspective on mental health narratives.

Director Tian Hairong, a renowned actress and producer in mainland China, expressed her hope that platforms like Cannes could showcase the warmth and depth of Chinese cinema to the world.

French director Frédéric Oberlin praised the film for its skillful handling of emotions, conveying silent feelings directly to the viewer’s heart. Sinologist Luisa Prudentino noted that the film’s sincere emotional core transcends cultural barriers, protecting the dignity of life and serving as a thread of warmth and empathy connecting different civilizations.
