Around 600 cinema professionals have expressed concern about the increasing influence of the ultra-right billionaire in the film industry. The CGT Spectacle union warns, “If Bolloré decides to pursue an ideological and censorship policy, he has the means to do so.”

Salomé Gadafi, deputy general secretary of the CGT Spectacle, calls on Franceinfo to “amplify the movement” after last week’s publication of a critical op-ed about Vincent Bolloré, signed by 600 cinema professionals amid tensions with Canal+. Gadafi responds to Canal+ CEO Maxime Saada’s statement that they will not work with those who signed the text, saying, “We absolutely do not regret it, and instead, we call for more and more people to sign.”

The op-ed, published in Libération on May 11 and signed by actors, directors, screenwriters, technicians, and associations, denounces the “growing influence of the extreme right” in cinema through Vincent Bolloré, a major shareholder of Canal+. Gadafi reiterates, “The CGT Spectacle and its unions have been warning for many months about the worrying control of billionaires promoting far-right ideas and imposing their revisionist culture.”

Gadafi also warns of increasing concentration in the cultural sector, urging unity to prevent Bolloré from taking over all sectors. The op-ed raises concerns about Canal+’s intention to acquire the entire capital of UGC, a cinema chain in which it acquired 34% in September. The famous Parisian concert hall L’Olympia is also owned by Canal+. Bolloré also owns several media outlets, including CNews, Europe1, and Le JDD. Gadafi cautions, “If Bolloré decides to pursue an ideological and censorship policy, he has the means to do so.”
