In spite of the bookmakers’ skepticism, Essyla believes in her chances of reaching the Eurovision final: “Anything can happen.”
The other qualifiers are: Greece, Finland, Sweden, Moldova, Israel, Serbia, Croatia, Lithuania, and Poland. Boy George and San Marino did not make the cut.
“I was really in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with the wrong people,” Sandra Kim, 40 years after Eurovision, a star in Flanders.
The second semi-final will take place on Thursday. The final, featuring Belgium, will be held on Saturday.
The Moldavia and Sweden Charm:
The first nation to take the stage in Vienna was Moldova. Satoshi set the bar high with a catchy performance mixing guitars, lively rhythm, rap, and even lyrical singing. Colorful, fresh, and very effective, no wonder the bookmakers placed Moldova in 5th position in this semi-final.
Changing gears with Felicia from Sweden, her title “My System” with a heavier electronic beat is well-performed from start to finish, earning her a solid 4th place prediction from the bookmakers.
Greece Takes the Kitsch Crown:
Next up was Croatia with a unique performance reminiscent of “Carmina Burana.” Following was Greek singer Akylas with a vibrant and colorful stage presence that the bookmakers saw as a strong contender for second place behind Finland.
Portugal and Georgia Tone it Down:
Portugal’s Bandidos do Cante and their traditional sound in “Rosa” contrasted with the Georgian group Bzikebi, who presented a lackluster performance that bookmakers predicted would land them last in the first semi-final.
Finland, The Clear Favorite:
The duo Linda Lampenius & Pete Parkkonen wowed audiences, with bookmakers predicting a win not only in the semi-final but in Saturday’s final as well.
Other Highlights:
- Montenegro presented an eccentric show reminiscent of a dark fairy tale.
- Israel delivered a solid performance, showcasing multicultural influences in the song “Michelle.”
- Belgium’s Essyla impressed with her flawless performance, defying bookmakers’ predictions of a low rank.
In summary, the Eurovision competition is heating up with a variety of performances, each vying for a chance at victory.
