After being launched by Eye Haïdara, Park Chan-wook and his jury, the opening ceremony will be marked by a strong moment: the awarding of an Honorary Palme d’Or to New Zealand’s Peter Jackson, director of the “Lord of the Rings” saga and “The Hobbit,” by his actor Elijah Wood, alias Frodo. The comedy The Electric Venus by Pierre Salvadori, starring Pio Marmaï, Anaïs Demoustier, and Gilles Lellouche, will then be screened.
Demi Moore, Monia Chokri, and Leïla Bekhti honored
Succeeding Juliette Binoche, South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook is this year’s jury president, having previously served as a juror in 2017 alongside Pedro Almodovar. He is joined by Demi Moore, Ruth Negga, Laura Wandel, Chloé Zhao, Diego Céspedes, Isaach De Bankolé, Paul Laberty, and Stella Skarsgård.
The Camera d’Or jury is led this year by Canadian actress and director Monia Chokri, accompanied by Marine Francen, Michel Benjamin, Cédric Coppola, and Christophe Massie. Meanwhile, Leïla Bekhti has been selected to preside over the Un Certain Regard jury, alongside Angèle Diabang, Laura Samni, Thomas Cailley, and Khaled Mouzanar. The awards will be presented at the closing ceremony on May 23, where Barbra Streisand will receive her Honorary Palme d’Or.
