On Sunday, May 10, Virginie Efira was invited to “Le Portrait de la Semaine” on the show “Sept à Huit”. In an excerpt published on social media, the 49-year-old actress talks about how she approaches motherhood and her relationship.
While she is set to star in Asghar Farhadi’s upcoming film “Histoires parallèles,” which will be released in theaters on May 14, Virginie Efira was featured on “Le Portrait de la Semaine” of the show “Sept à Huit” on Sunday, May 10. In a preview shared on the program’s Instagram account, the actress opened up about her age. She particularly mentioned the age difference between her and her partner, Niels Schneider. Indeed, the star of Rebecca Zlotowski’s “Vie Privée” just turned 49, while her partner is about to celebrate his 39th birthday.
Despite the potential comments due to this age gap, Virginie Efira has not been phased or faced any complexity. She expressed to Audrey Crespo-Mara, “I understand the curiosity at first, about things that might seem more unusual. But I feel, fortunately, that these things are changing. Your age is a fact. A fact that still… signifies things. If at 20, you think you’ve understood everything in life, well darling, you’re 20… If at 63, you think you can have a child, well that’s going to be a bit complicated… But it’s a fact among many others! It’s not the one that defines your identity.”

“Les choses, elles arrivent parfois sans qu’on le souhaite”
For the past 8 years, Virginie Efira has been in a relationship with Niels Schneider, whom she met on the set of the film “Un amour impossible” by Catherine Corsini. In August 2023, the couple welcomed their first son, Hiro. Virginie Efira had Hiro when she was 46, ten years after giving birth to her daughter, Ali, from her relationship with director Mabrouk El Mechri. The actress shared, “It’s also an old age. Things sometimes happen without us wanting them, quite remarkably.” she told TF1 cameras about Hiro’s arrival in her life, adding that she went through this second pregnancy more peacefully. She affirmed, “I think that the first step, changing your relationship with the world, which is really a different one, with so many wonderful things. It’s about discovering unconditional love, but, sorry guys, it’s also discovering the loss of complete carelessness. That’s done for me, I already know it.”
This is a sentiment she had previously shared with “Madame Figaro” in December 2024. She mentioned, “Today, with Hiro, I am more serene… I believe the perspective on motherhood has changed. Alternative testimonies have been heard on TV sets and elsewhere. We know that women can also feel bad after giving birth, be a mess – even if we all agree that it remains the most beautiful day of their life.” She continued, “Being able to talk about it makes you feel much better. I was aware of all this at Hiro’s birth, and consequently, I was fine. I must also say that the father of my child is very cool.” With these words, she further breaks the taboo around late motherhood among women.
