“We received a letter from the town hall specifying that we had to put these activities on hold for safety reasons,” detailed Stéphane Pérez, one of the four co-managers of the establishment. “The municipality wants to make sure everything is in order, we will have a discussion with them,” he added.

According to him, these requests follow the accident in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, where 41 people died in the fire at the Constellation bar during New Year’s Eve. Since the tragedy, many municipalities have intensified checks in public establishments, including Bordeaux, where they were already reinforced before the elections, in collaboration with the Union of Merchants and Hotel Industries of Gironde.

Permanent closure in September

This decision remains temporary and the letter indicates that “the town hall is open to discussion,” according to Stéphane Pérez. “There have never been any problems here, everything is in order, and I believe we have arguments to show that we can safely accommodate the public. We are waiting to meet with them,” added the co-manager.

Contacted, Marc Lafosse, deputy mayor of Bordeaux in charge of the La Bastide district, said he has “no further information to communicate on the subject.”
