170 cinema seats sold in less than 24 hours in Pontivy: “Everything had been reserved”

“Cinema seats for sale. Good overall condition. 25 euros per seat. Must be disassembled on site on Monday, May 25, 2026.” In less than 24 hours, 170 seats from the Rex cinema in Pontivy (Morbihan) found takers. Faced with the success of the operation, the announcement published on Facebook on Monday, April 27, 2026 had to be withdrawn the next day. “Everything had been reserved,” says Benoît Roué, the manager of the Rex cinema.

Seats from 1999

The seats in four of the five Rex cinema rooms had already been replaced. “In 2018, we replaced the seats in rooms 3 and 4. In 2022, those of room one. Only those of room 2 remained, dating back to 1999, the year the cinema was built.”

170 red seats, some slightly worn at the seams.

But the foam in the seat and back cushions remains just as firm, even after 25 years of use.

13 key required!

Every time Benoît Roué wanted to renew his seats, he did it in the same way: by publishing an announcement on social networks inviting interested buyers to come and disassemble the seats themselves. 13 keys required!

Cinema seat enthusiasts have sniffed out a good deal.

There is a demand for cinema seats. Most of the people who reserved seats plan to set up a home cinema. This year, two associations have also shown interest.

Altogether, about forty people reserved seats.

“Classic, timeless pieces”

Once the 170 seats are dismantled on May 25, the carpet in room 2 will be removed two days later.

The work will result in the closure of room 2 from May 25 to June 12. During this period, a new carpet will be laid and 172 new seats will be installed.

The cost of each new seat, including transportation and installation, amounts to 320 euros. However, the sale of the old seats helps reduce the costs associated with this renovation.

For the renovation, Benoît Roué chose to maintain continuity by keeping the same colors in room 2: gray carpet and red seats. “Classic, timeless pieces.”

It will be at least twenty years before the next cinema seat sale operation can be enjoyed…
