Olivia Wilde pokes fun at comparisons to Gollum.
In brief: – Presented at the San Francisco Film Festival, Olivia Wilde was compared to Gollum after a viral video. – She responded humorously on Instagram, sharing an image of Gollum explaining the fish-eye lens effect. – Her new film, “The Invite,” will be released on September 16, featuring a couple exploring swinging.
There is hardly a less flattering comparison. Olivia Wilde was present at the San Francisco International Film Festival on May 1 to introduce her new feature film. The former “Dr. House” star, now also a director, was filmed at a less flattering angle, and the video quickly went viral on social media. She responded to the criticism on Instagram.
The 42-year-old comedian and filmmaker was one of the festival’s headliners running in California until Monday, May 4. It was not the theme of the film about swinging, or the cast, that caught the attention of internet users, but a video of the director on the red carpet during an SFGate media interview.
The video captured the actress in a close-up and triggered a wave of negative comments about Olivia Wilde, including discussing her very thin appearance. Many compared her to Gollum, the creature from “The Lord of the Rings.”
Olivia Wilde responded on Instagram on May 3 with a lot of irony. She posted a video replying to a message from her brother Charlie Cockburn. He had written, “Could you respond to the rumors claiming you are a reanimated corpse?”
With humor, Olivia Wilde proudly displayed Gollum’s head as well as a screenshot of her face in the SFGate interview. She explained, “Well, it was shot with a fish-eye lens. I admit it, is it my best profile? My best look? No. It’s scary, it’s a scary image. I don’t know why I was glued to the lens like that. But anyway, I’m not dead,” she mentioned.
The film “The Invite” is a remake of the Spanish film “Sentimental” by Cesc Gay. The film, in which she also stars, depicts a couple (Olivia Wilde and Seth Rogen) immersed in routine and boredom. Until their neighbors, played by Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton, invite them to their “special evenings.” Her third film behind the camera after “Booksmart” and “Don’t Worry Darling” will be released on September 16.
