After a successful “Spring of Orchestras” at the end of April in Jarnac, director Grégoire Feybesse intends to continue this collaborative and fraternal spirit by mobilizing all of the approximately 440 students and 22 teachers of the structure.

This will kick off this week, with the first of two planned concerts. The Trio Cemali, consisting of Lily Richard (cello), Matthieu Sternat (piano), both teachers at the Conservatory, and Cédric Allard (violin) will perform this Thursday, May 7th, at 8:30 pm, at the Javrezac community hall. The program includes the romantic universe of Chausson’s piano trio and the more playful trio by the Russian composer Shostakovich.

Switching genres for the second concert on June 25th at the Abattoirs, a rock trio composed of Agnès Jacquier (piano teacher on drums), Pauline Josselin (lyrical singing teacher on bass), and Laurent Jacquier (guitar) will offer timeless titles with rhythm and energy. “It should rock pretty well,” smiles Séverine Caillé, the new vice-president in charge of culture.

These two concerts will be ticketed (5€), but free for children under 12 and minor students of the Conservatory.

Open House on May 30th
Between these two dates, other free events will punctuate the end of the school year. On May 20th, there will be a happening in the streets of Cognac to announce the open house, featuring classes in theater and instruments (saxophone, viola, cello, flute). They will start at 1:30 pm at the public garden kiosk, then at 2 pm at the intersection of du Canton and Aristide-Briand streets, and at 2:30 pm at the cloister of the media library, announces Grégoire Feybesse.

The open house will take place on Saturday, May 30th, from 9:30 am to 6 pm, with the entire educational team and students. “Everyone will be on deck. The idea is to introduce all the taught instruments and teachers and answer all questions,” says Séverine Caillé. This is also the occasion to have a sneak peek at the organ made by local organ builder Bernard Boulay, which will be operational by the start of the school year.

June will be particularly busy, with concerts, theatrical performances, and the grand end-of-year concert.
