The world of cinema is once again in mourning. After the recent losses of Nadia Farès and Nathalie Baye, a well-known figure in the American public eye has passed away. Patrick Muldoon, famous for his role as Richard in Melrose Place, died this Sunday morning at the age of 57 from a heart attack. The announcement was made by our colleagues at Deadline, sparking nostalgia among an entire generation of 90s teens.
Also a producer, the actor started his career in the early 1990s while still a student at the University of Southern California, where he played football. Quickly, he landed his first roles on television, appearing in Who’s the Boss before gaining recognition in Saved by the Bell. These promising beginnings marked the start of a successful journey on the small screen.
Patrick Muldoon’s career took off in 1992 when he joined the cast of the popular soap opera Days of Our Lives. He portrayed Austin Reed for several years, becoming well-known to the public, before briefly returning to the series in 2011 and 2012. Subsequently, the actor transitioned to the big screen, appearing in Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers in 1997. In France, he is primarily associated with the character of Richard Hart in Melrose Place. Over the years, he also made numerous appearances in TV movies, especially during the holiday season. Besides acting, Muldoon also worked in production on several cinema projects like The Tribes of Palos Verdes, Arkansas, Marlowe, and The Card Counter. Most recently, he was involved in the production of Kockroach, a film currently in production featuring Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, and Zazie Beetz.
A detailed personal life In terms of his personal life, Patrick Muldoon often made headlines for his romantic relationships. In the 90s, he was notably involved with Tori Spelling, followed by a highly-publicized relationship with Denise Richards. He also dated French actress Juliette Binoche from 2002 to 2006, a story that captured media attention at the time. These romances helped cement his reputation as a Hollywood heartthrob. Beyond his roles and fame, he leaves behind deeply affected loved ones, who remember him for his “limitless generosity,” affection for both animals and humans, and ability to make others feel safe and truly seen. Described as “elegant, charismatic, and full of life,” he approached each day with a completely rock ‘n’ roll spirit, full of intensity. May he rest in peace.
