From May to September 2026, the Fortissimo festival returns for a unique edition combining concerts, maritime heritage, and cultural walks.

The Toulon Music Festival and its region unveiled the Fortissimo 2026 programming, an event that will take place from May 30 to September 20 along the entire Var coast. This new edition promises an immersive journey where classical music, jazz, and contemporary creations will interact with exceptional heritage and natural sites, from military forts to the islands of the Mediterranean.

An official presentation of the season is scheduled for Tuesday, May 26 at 5:30 pm at the Chalucet Media Library Auditorium in Toulon. It will be followed by a conference titled “Port-Cros, an island, forts, between nature and culture” presented by historian Yves Stalloni.

A unique concept between land and sea

Fortissimo 2026 is deeply rooted in the identity of the Var territory by offering a series of “unexpected encounters”. The festival invites the public to rediscover local heritage in a new light, through original formats. The program includes concerts in iconic locations such as Fort de l’Aiguillette, Fort Balaguier, or Tour Royale, as well as cultural walks at sea aboard old boats, musical and heritage hikes on the islands of Porquerolles and Port-Cros, or even a bike-concert between vineyards and heritage around Fort de Brégançon.

The event also affirms an ecological and civic commitment by promoting soft mobility and collaborating closely with local associations to create moments of sharing and conviviality. The ambition is clear: “Together, let’s bring music into our Heritage!” as the festival proclaims in its communication.

A rich and eclectic program

Musical diversity is at the heart of the project. Music lovers will be able to enjoy internationally renowned artists and ensembles such as the Sirba Octet, performing Jewish, Armenian, and Gypsy repertoires, the Arod Quartet for an evening of “Bach under the stars,” or the duo formed by violinist Tedi Papavrami and pianist Jean-Frédéric Neuburger. Clarinetist Pascal Moraguès will also share the stage with young talents for an evening of transmission.

Among the highlights, the opera “Les Pianos sauvages” will celebrate its 10th anniversary on June 24, with pianos set up for free access in several cities in the Var (Toulon, La Seyne-sur-Mer, Le Pradet, La Garde), animated by professional and amateur musicians, and culminating in a grand concert on Place Puget in Toulon.

The festival will culminate on September 19 at Fort Lamalgue with a grandiose sound and light show celebrating the 400 years of the French Navy. The National Navy Orchestra, conducted by Alexandre Kosmicki, will perform an original musical fresco accompanying a narration and archival images retracing four centuries of maritime history.

Conferences, afterworks, and discoveries

In addition to concerts, Fortissimo 2026 offers a dense cultural component. A conference on “Manuscript Military Atlases of the Mediterranean in the Modern Era (17th-18th centuries)” will be held at the Marine Museum. Musical afterworks at sea, guided tours of forts (Fort du Pradeau, Fort du Grand Saint-Antoine), and even star observation sessions after certain concerts will enhance the festivalgoers’ experience.
