Today, Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache (brother of the comedian Géraldine Nakache) have nothing left to prove. They long struggled to make a name for themselves on the big screen. Facing Cédric Cizaire on Tuesday, April 14, the duo, who have always worked together, made a surprising confession. Long before they were famous, they frequented TV sets, especially game shows, in the hope of being noticed. “I had a moment in my life where I had a pathology. I wanted to be on TV all the time! So I signed up for all the shows and even appeared on ‘Tournez Manège’,” explained Eric Toledano, revealing that he even won, but ended up breaking up with the girl he left with.
A Challenge for Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache
However, Eric Toledano didn’t have this whimsy alone. With his partner Olivier Nakache, whom he met in 1995, they had their share of adventures and crazy bets before finding success. “With Olivier, it was a challenge we gave ourselves,” he said, adding, “Yes, we went on public shows, hoping someone would notice us and say, ‘hey, do you want to do cinema?'” A challenge that made them laugh but unfortunately was not a great success. “It didn’t happen, it’s strange, huh?” Eric Toledano replied laughing.
Eric Toledano was “Crazy”
Both friends also appeared on “Une famille en or.” For the Toledano family, the experience was memorable. “The whole Toledano family was on ‘Une famille en or,’ with a central character who is Martine, who is the sister of my brother-in-law. When Patrick Roy spoke to her, she froze and stopped talking. Being on TV completely blocked her. We laughed about it for a long time in the family, asking why did Martine freeze?” Eric Toledano recounted, bringing laughter to the set.
According to Olivier Nakache, however, the funny anecdotes do not stop there. “There is something even better than that!” he exclaimed before revealing that Eric had appeared as an extra on “L’ile aux enfants,” with Casimir! Faced with the surprise of the host and others present on the set, he admitted to being “crazy” at that time. “I really wanted to be on TV!” he concluded. In the end, they didn’t need to be discovered because it was their talent that made the difference. Today, they are directors and screenwriters of numerous cult films such as “Nos jours heureux,” “Intouchables,” “Samba,” “Le sens de la fête,” and “Une année difficile.”
