This was called “madness” and “blasphemy.”
Yesterday, Donald Trump posted a photo of himself generated by AI.
This is not the first time he has stooped to “meme warfare” and rage-baiting through AI. However, this time was different.
In the image, Trump appears to be dressed as Jesus Christ. It came shortly after he criticized Pope Leon XIV, calling him “weak” and stating that “if I were not in the White House, Leo would not be in the Vatican.”
His comments on the pope, as well as the AI-generated image, have garnered criticism from, well, almost everyone, from his own MAGA base to prominent members of the Catholic Church.
“Not even Hitler or Mussolini ever attacked the pope so directly and publicly,” said Massimo Faggioli, a papal expert, in a statement to Reuters.
Conservative influencer Riley Gaines wrote, “Honestly, I don’t understand why he would publish this. Is he looking for a reaction? Does he really think that? In any case, two things are true: 1) a little humility would not hurt him; 2) God will not be mocked.”
Former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi considered the AI-generated image to be “madness” and, as a Catholic, “blasphemous,” while the Knights Templar International organization demanded that the “offensive and blasphemous image be removed immediately!”
Trump deleted the image, a rare move, and claimed that it was “supposed to show me as a doctor improving people’s health.”
No one believed this explanation, and several celebrities also denounced Trump’s use of AI.
In this week’s episode of the “Daily Show,” Jon Stewart commented on Trump’s excuse, saying, “Does it still matter to you to lie to us? Is it over? Has this relationship soured? Your lies used to have a real sparkle. ‘They eat cats and dogs! Venezuela stole the 2020 election!’ And now, the best you have is: ‘No, I wasn’t Jesus. I’m a doctor!’ You must quickly get back to your happy little world.”
Furthermore, rockstar and vocal Trump critic Jack White posted a scathing attack against Trump and his Christian supporters.
“How can a so-called Christian support him after this blasphemy?” White wrote on Instagram. “How can a Catholic support him after he has repeatedly attacked their pope’s character? How could millions of people be fooled by this con artist?”
White then criticized Trump’s evangelical Christian supporters for sticking to his sides despite his “crimes, Epstein files, rapes, bombings of school children, ICE agents Gestapo style attacking his own citizens, threats to invade Greenland, Cuba, Venezuela, and Iran.”
White added, “He has already locked up the title of worst president in American history, but I will go further and award myself the honor of proclaiming Trump the ‘worst American of all time.'”
